Art & Exhibition
The goal of this unit was to explore the role of the gallery in the display of artworks. Students studied the exterior and interior architectural designs of famous art museums. Then, they pretended to be architects, using math to calculate area and perimeter, to design their own art galleries. After that, students acted as curators, choosing and creating their own art, and then wrote informational brochures. By working to select works for display in formal and informal settings, students learned to make critical decisions about their own and others’ works, and developed an understanding that the perception of an image can vary according to its audience.
